From the 1980s, Katsura Funakoshi has created sculptures offigures capturing deep and complicated mental states of mind. For Funakoshi, prints areno different from the medium ofsculpture, andever since he first presented the little engraving work in 1987he has ventured to continue creatingworkswithdifferenttechniques everytime. The Mezzotint technique is used for new worksinthis exhibition, about which Funakoshi says "It was the closest thing to making the sculptures of all the prints I have ever made". By scratching the whole block, hemakes visiblethe delicate half tones from black to white. It is notasimple flat surface buthasdepth and is "three-dimensional" in itself. His new works are themed on the "double image" and important things surrounding people such as nature, dreams and imagination, which radiate a blindingaura. Please enjoy this second exhibition of Hikarie's first anniversary.
